What kind of incentive?
Guilt trips aren’t the most effective way to persuade people to ride their bikes. A tangible reward, even something very small, is a much better motivator.
Since each business is unique, we think it makes sense that each business’s participation in BikeLeavenworth would also be unique. For example, those who bike instead of drive could receive:
from a grocery store:
These are just general ideas; we want each business to think of a way to participate that makes sense for them.
What’s in it for businesses?
Local businesses will benefit from BikeLeavenworth, too. Participating businesses will gain exposure, and will have a chance to show customers that they care about sustainability. Your participation could give locals even more reason to choose you!
Outreach/Advertising
Apart from my advertising at the Earth Day Fair, I will work with the Wenatchee World, the Leavenworth Echo, and KOHO Radio to spread the word about BikeLeavenworth and participating businesses.
In order to attract an even wider biking audience, participating businesses are encouraged to hang posters (which I will provide) and/or tell customers about BikeLeavenworth upon checkout.
Time Frame
BikeLeavenworth went through a trial period during the summer of 2015. This spring, after a reevaluation, we are very excited to announce that BikeLeavenworth will continue functioning in the long-term. Participating businesses have reported successes, and we hope that BikeLeavenworth will remain in Leavenworth for years to come.

from a grocery store:
- an apple with their purchase
- a small discount on their purchase
- some other prize (i.e. an item from a grab-bag of bumper stickers, for example)
- a quarter off of their coffee
- OR a punch card with their purchase of a coffee (they could receive a punch for every coffee bought IF they rode their bike)
